What is NASBA?
NASBA serves as a forum for the 54 U.S. boards of accountancy. NASBA sponsors a variety of programs and services designed to enhance the effectiveness of its member boards and to benefit every certified public accountant.

What is the NASBA CPE program?
Most states require continuing professional education (CPE) for a certified public accountant to maintain active licenses. The National Registry of CPE Sponsors is a program offered by NASBA to recognize sponsors who offer CPE in accordance with nationally recognized standards. Individuals seeking CPE credits should contact the state board in which the certified public accountant holds his or her license to determine the CPE requirements.

Are prerequisites or any advance preparation required?
We do not require prerequisites. No advance preparation is required for these accounting certification courses.

What is CES & SkillSoft's affiliation?
CES is a provider of SkillSoft accounting certification courses. SkillSoft Corporation is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors.

How are CPE credits determined?
CPE credits are measured by program length, with one 50-minute period equal to one CPE credit. One half-credit increments (equal to 25 minutes) are permitted after the first credit has been earned and time is rounded down to the nearest full or half credit hour.

CPE credit for self-study accounting certification programs, such as ours, is based on the results of pilot tests conducted to determine average completion time for a certified public accountant and therefore CPE value is noted on our NASBA course list.

Requirements for a certified public accountant to receive CPE:

  1. Course must be "Compliant" at time it is started.
  2. Course must be taken in full, which means all topics must be accessed. Pre-assessment feature cannot be used when taking courses for CPE.
  3. Course must be completed by the certified public accountant within one year of first access.
  4. Score of 70% or greater

State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.

How do I obtain my Certificate of Completion?
As a member of the NASBA Registry of CPE Sponsors, SkillSoft has a responsibility to verify that CPE requirements are met, issue a certificate that includes certain NASBA required information, and maintain course and certificant records for five years. NASBA certificates of completion are not the same as a general certificate of completion for the reasons just mentioned.

Any certified public accountant seeking CPE credit must be a CES client taking SkillSoft courses. To receive a certificate the following should be submitted to SkillSoft:

  1. A printed learner progress report of successful course(s) completion. This LMS generated report should include the learners full name, course title, passing grade, date of completion, indication of 100% course completion.
  2. A completed course evaluation form for each course requiring a certificate. Course evaluation form link can be found behind the NASBA button in every course or here.
  3. In certificate request, be sure to include your company name, email address and phone number (to contact in case of follow up items) and mailing address to send certificates to. NOTE: It is the responsibility of the individual certified public accountant to submit certificate, if required, to their respective state board for credit.
