Should I check my computer settings prior to beginning my courses?
A: Yes, please follow the directions e-mailed to you prior to starting
the course.
In addition, review the following information before
beginning your course.
Browser Capabilities Test:
The Browser Capabilities
Test will ensure that your computer and web browser are
configured, enabling you
to access your course online. Copy and paste this link into
your web browser and
follow the directions: http://browser.skillport.com/bh/default.asp

below, if the browser test is unsupported:
Pop-Up Blocker
If you use Internet
Explorer, follow the steps below:
1. Set Security: Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > highlight
Trusted Sites > click Sites
2. Add www.skillport.com
3. Remove check mark
from “Require Server Verification”
4. Click OK
5. With Trusted Sites
still highlighted, click Default Level; ensure the level is set to “Low”
Install the JRE application from your 'Resource CD' and to ensure all JRE
options
are enabled, follow these steps:
1. Go to Tools >
Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Scroll down until you see JRE
2. Ensure all three
options are checked and click APPLY.

How long do I have to complete my online course(s)?
A: Your employer
will set duration for completing your course(s). Under no circumstances will
the duration
to complete your selection of courses last more
than 6 consecutive months.
Q: What do I do when I complete my course?
A: You will need to contact your CES Student Support Rep by e-mail or
telephone immediately upon
completion of your coursework.
Q: How can I tell when I have completed my
course?

Continuing Education Units
Q: What is a Continuing Education Unit?
A: The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized unit of
measurement for
participation in non-credit continuing education
programs. Adults who participate in George
Mason University's approved programs may be
awarded education units. A permanent
record of CEU's can be maintained in an
up-to-date database easily accessible for certification
and verification purposes.
Q:
How are CEUs calculated?
A: One CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an
organized continuing
education experience. A CEU can be awarded in
whole units or fractions of a unit
(one-tenth unit) for each additional contact
hour.
Q: What are the benefits of CEUs?
A: The objective of the CEU is to:
Encourage adult
students to utilize educational resources to meet their personal
&
educational needs
Recognize individuals
that continue their education & keep themselves current in
their chosen
professions
Enable individuals to
have an accurate source of their current CEU activity
Provide a system to
document continuing education experiences in meeting
certification
requirements.
Q: What types of events may be approved to
award CEUs?
A: All non-credit courses, workshops,
conferences and seminars that are designed to
expand the skills
& knowledge of professionals, are eligible for CEUs.
CEUs may be awarded to any of the following:
Non-credit evening
classes, clinics, independent study program, TV or videotaped
programs used as part
of an organized education experience.
In-service training
programs.
Programs that will
fulfill certificate or licensing requirements.
Programs falling
within a "technical/industrial society" sponsored by the University
enabling members to
upgrade their technical or occupational credentials.
Paraprofessional and
vocational training programs.
Staff development
programs.
CEUs are typically not awarded to:
Any program for which
academic credit is received.
Orientation or
on-the-job training programs.
A program that
leads to certificate or equivalency or high school credit.
Individual,
self-directed studies or independent learning experiences not subject to
verification by
